Following a report last week, Ford has confirmed the electric F-150 will be called the Lightning.
Besides announcing the name, Ford released new teasers and revealed the truck will be unveiled on May 19th at 9:30 p.m. EDT.
While the teasers aren’t very revealing, they suggest the truck will have a fully enclosed grille that is flanked by vertical headlights as well as U-shaped daytime running lights. We can also see Lightning badging on the sides of the bed, just ahead of the taillights.

As we noted last week, Lightning is a fitting name for the electric F-150 as it implies power, electricity and nature. The truck will also build on the Lightning’s legacy of performance as Ford has already confirmed the model will have a dual motor powertrain that produces “more horsepower and torque than any F-150 available today.”
While Ford didn’t go into specifics, the Lightning will be more powerful than the previous F-150 Raptor which had a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that produced 450 hp (336 kW / 456 PS) and 510 lb-ft (691 Nm) of torque. Ford has also said the truck will offer the “fastest acceleration” as well as the “ability to tow heavy trailers.”

The F-150 Lightning will go into production next spring and Ford CEO Jim Farley said, “America’s favorite vehicle for nearly half a century is going digital and fully electric.” He added, the truck can power your home during an outage, accelerate faster than the original F-150 Lightning and will “constantly improve through over-the-air updates.”
Farley went on to compare it to the Model T, Tesla Model 3 and Toyota Prius as he said, “Every so often, a new vehicle comes along that disrupts the status quo and changes the game.”
