1991 Widebody Acura NSX Has An Air Of Japanese Super GT Racer About It

One could make an argument that modifying a first-gen Acura NSX is akin to blasphemy but one example boasts a number of them anyway.

The car is currently up for sale on Bring A Trailer and the first thing you’ll notice is the widebody kit. The listing notes that the car was repainted after this kit was installed to ensure all the panels matched up nicely. Various other exterior modifications have also been made.

For example, the widebody kit has been complemented with an adjustable APR Performance carbon fiber rear wing and an aggressive new rear diffuser. A previous owner has also equipped the NSX with a set of forged Volk Racing TE37V wheels finished in bronze and shod in Landgolden tires. Another key modification made is the fitment of a bespoke air suspension system that features two Viair air compressors and an Air Lift Performance controller. All in all, all the mods give the NSX a very aggressive appearance; squint hard enough, and you might even see some resemblance to the old Japanese Super GT racers.

Move to the interior and there are Bride reclining bucket seats clad in black cloth with gray center sections. Also fitted is a new rear-view mirror, an Eclipse head unit with navigation, three-spoke Mugen steering wheel with red stitching, plus all the standard features including automatic climate control and cruise control.

From the factory, the car’s 3.0-liter naturally-aspirated C30A V6 was rated at 270 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque. This car also includes a carbon fiber airbox and an aftermarket coolant overflow tank as well as new headers and an aftermarket exhaust.

Acura NSX Vs Audi R8 V10 Plus Results May Surprise You

<!––>

<!––>

The Audi R8 V10 Plus and Acura NSX might be similarly-sized mid-engined supercars but under the skin, they are quite different.

You see, whereas the Audi could be considered as more of a traditional supercar due to its high-revving, naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine, the NSX has a much more complex hybrid powertrain that consists of a twin-turbocharged V6 engine that operates alongside no less than three electric motors.

On paper, the Audi has the advantage over the more complex NSX, pumping out 602 hp compared to the 573 hp of the Acura. Eager to see how the two compare in a straight line, YouTube channel Track Day took them to an empty runway for a series of drag races.

In the first race, held from a standing start, the two all-wheel drive supercars accelerated off the line exceptionally well, but it was the Audi that was able to open up a strong lead as the speeds increased. For the second, the two started off at 30 mph (48 km/h) before the two drivers stamped on the throttle pedals. Once again, it was the Audi that proved to be too much for its rival.

The third drag race, this time from a standing start, was perhaps the most interesting. Thanks to the instant torque provided by its electric motors, the NSX quickly jumped out to an early lead. So, did it manage to beat the R8?
