2020 Audi RS4 Bets On Its 2.9-Liter V6 Against The RS7’s V8

We’ve seen a lot of new Audi models, like the 2020 Audi RS6 Avant, RS7 Sportback and RS Q8, race each other as of late, but that’s only because most of these cars are still relatively new to certain markets.

The 2020 RS4 Avant came out in October of last year having undergone a few styling changes. Power comes from a twin turbo 2.9-liter V6 that’s mated to an 8-speed automatic and quattro all-wheel drive.

The RS4 Avant is thus capable of hitting 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.1 seconds, putting its 444 HP (450 PS) and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque to good use.

As far as weight is concerned, the RS4 carries around some 1,790 kg (3,950 lbs), while the larger RS7 Sportback weighs 2,065 kg (4,552 lbs). Of course, the latter also has more power in order to deal with the extra mass.

Underneath the RS7’s hood lies a 4.0-liter twin turbocharged V8 producing 591 HP (600 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. According to Audi, it will hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.6 seconds, so, on paper, it should outsprint the RS4.

The following video shows the two Audis race each other from a standstill and a rolling start, and perform a brake test. Moreover, the drivers executed each run (aside from the brake test) several times in order to make sure their results were as accurate as possible.

New Audi Q4 Sportback E-Tron Concept Previews An Affordable Electric Crossover Coupe

Audi has officially unveiled the Q4 Sportback e-tron concept, which previews an upcoming production model that will be introduced next year.

Essentially a crossover coupe version of the Q4 e-tron concept, the Sportback features a sporty front fascia with a fully enclosed grille that is flanked by slender LED headlights. The model also has large air intakes and a prominent “e-tron” badge beneath the grille.

Bigger changes occur further back as the concept has a rakish windscreen and a steeply sloping roof. There are also muscular fenders, sporty side skirts and 22-inch alloy wheels with a two-tone finish.

Rounding out the highlights are a large diffuser and a liftgate with an integrated spoiler. Elsewhere, there are slender taillights and an illuminated e-tron badge.

Moving into the cabin, drivers sit behind a flat-bottomed steering wheel and find themselves looking at a digital instrument cluster. To their right, is a 12.3-inch infotainment system and minimalist climate controls. We can also see a streamlined center console and a push-button shifter.

Other highlights include microfiber upholstery, metallic trim and black plexiglas accents. There are also two rear seats which are integrated into a wide bench.

Motivation is provided by two electric motors that are feed by an 82 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.  The rear motor is the primary means of propulsion and it produces 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 229 lb-ft (310 Nm) of torque.  If driver needs more power or conditions warrant more traction, the front motor – which is rated at 101 hp (75 kW / 102 PS) and 111 lb-ft (150 Nm) of torque – kicks on.

This setup gives the crossover a combined output of 302 hp (225 kW / 306 PS). It enables the concept to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 6.3 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 112 mph (180 km/h).

In terms of range, Audi says drivers can expect to travel more than 280 miles (450 km) in the WLTP cycle.  However, the company also mentioned a rear-wheel drive variant with a range in excess of 311 miles (500 km).

In regards to charging, Audi says the concept can be charged at a rate of up to 125 kW.  This will allow the crossover to get an 80% charge in a little more than half an hour.

The Q4 Sportback e-tron concept rides on the MEB platform and previews an upcoming production model that is slated to be introduced in 2021.  It will become the brand’s seventh electric vehicle after models such as the e-tron and e-tron GT.

Looking For A Blue Unicorn? Here’s A 1996 Audi S6 Plus, The One With The V8

Back in 1997, Audi retired the C4 generation of the A6, after only four years of production, but not before releasing the hottest model of the series, the S6 Plus.

Made in the final two years of production, 952 units saw the light of day, including 855 Avants (estate) and 97 sedans. The limited production number made it a true automotive unicorn, especially in the four-door body style, but this wasn’t the only highlight.

In fact, you had to pop the hood in order to see the icing on the cake, the 4.2-liter DOHC V8, with 32 valves, which replaced the 2.2-liter five-pot powering the standard S6. The engine produced 322 HP (326 PS / 240 kW), 95 HP (96 PS / 71 kW) more than the smaller lump, for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) of 5.6 seconds (5.7 seconds for the Avant).

Other highlights included the upgraded six-speed manual transmission, re-tuned suspension and bigger brakes, joined by the leather and Alcantara upholstery, electrically adjustable front seats with memory, electric sunroof and integrated phone.

This 24-year old S6 Plus was apparently gifted to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, in return for advertising space, and was used by the former CEO, before being sold to the Marquees of Antella. In the possession of its new owner, the car was repainted in Nogaro Blue, the original color, and the engine was rebuilt.

You already know where this is going, so we’ll cut to the chase by telling you that RMSothebys estimates that it will fetch between €40,000 and €60,000 ($43,853-$65,779). It will be offered without reserve at an online auction that kicks off on June 3 at 1:00 p.m. CET (7:00 a.m. EST) in Essen, Germany.
