Ferrari Reveals Name Of Hotter 812 Superfast: The Versione Speciale

In a short video from its chief marketing officer Enrico Galliera sent out to potential clients, Ferrari revealed the name of its next project, the Versione Speciale. A hotter version of the 812 Superfast, it should be quite a sight to behold.

Posted to Instagram by Rosso Automobili Magazine that was discovered by Carbuzz, the video is simply designed to alert clients to the model’s existence and encourage them to consider ordering one. Unfortunately, details on the 812 Versione Speciale (they may stylize it differently) are limited, but whatever Ferrari decides to do, it should live up to the name.

At launch, the 812 Superfast had the most powerful naturally-aspirated engine ever produced by the brand. It makes 789 hp and 539 lb-ft of torque from a 6.5-liter engine. The title has since been taken by the Monza SP1 and SP2, though, which make 799 hp from the same engine.

Previously believed to be called the 812 GTO, reports suggest that the car could be the last Ferrari with a naturally aspirated front-mounted V12. With turbocharged V8s increasingly taking over high-power duties at Ferrari, and electrified drivetrains increasingly entering the supercar market, there’s good reason to believe the reports.

The price for the Versione Speciale should be pretty impressive, too. Although again Ferrari hasn’t revealed those details yet, the 812 Superfast sells for an estimated $340,000. Despite that lofty price, it has apparently been a solid seller.

2019 sales of the Superfast and the Portofino were apparently strong enough to encourage Ferrari to raise its earnings forecast in early 2020. Hardly a surprise, then, that the prancing horse thinks it can squeeze a little more out of the grand tourer.

Expect a longer video more focused on the car soon. Reports suggest that could come as soon as next week, so keep an eye out for more.

ByKolles Racing Unveils Its Le Mans Hypercar Racer, Including Road-Legal Variant

Shortly after Toyota and Peugeot unveiled their Le Mans Hypercar racers, ByKolles Racing has pulled the wraps off its own competitor for the exciting new endurance class.

Dubbed the PMC Project, ByKolles Racing’s hypercar won’t just compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship but will also spawn road-legal and track-special variants.

Driving the ByKolles PMC Project race car is a naturally aspirated V8 engine that will be capped at approximately 700 hp in line with Balance of Performance rules. Interestingly, both the Peugeot and Toyota competitors have hybrid systems. The PMC Project will tip the scales at 2,292 lbs (1,039 kg).

Road-legal variant of the ByKolles Racing PMC Project

The track car will also be powered by a naturally aspirated V8, albeit with a 650-hp output and a weight of only 2,094 pounds, while the road-legal version will utilize a hybrid system alongside the V8 to deliver a combined 1,000 hp. The car’s engine will be capable of running on biofuel and the racing team is targeting a total weight of 2,204 lbs (1,000 kg).

Images of the three variations show that the Le Mans racing car and the track model will look virtually identical with a prominent front splitter, sharp headlights, a large roof scoop, and a prominent sharkfin connected to a towering rear wing. The road-legal model is also very similar to the track models but ditches the sharkfin and rear wing.

The Le Mans car and the track model will both feature a single seat mounted at the center, while the street car might add an additional seat, or even two.

The 2021 Le Mans Hypercar class will see the ByKolles Racing PMC Project competing against the Toyota GR010 Hybrid and the Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus 007; Peugeot’s contender will make its debut in the 2022 season.

The Allure starts at £23,280 ($30,703) and adds a 180-degree reversing camera, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and push-button start.

The GT is available from £26,630 ($35,121), and it sports 17-inch wheels, the Driver Sport Pack, leather-effect and cloth seat trim with red stitching, and the GT Premium brings 18-inch wheels, Alcantara and leather-effect upholstery with red stitching, Blind Spot Monitoring and Park Assist, from £27,380 ($36,110).

Jeep Details Compass And Renegade 4Xe PHEVs For Their European Launch

Jeep is launching the new 4Xe plug-in hybrid versions of the Compass and Renegade models in Europe, releasing all the details of its first electrified models in the region.

Both the Compass and the Renegade 4Xe models will arrive in showrooms across Europe this September, offered in three trim levels (Limited, S, and Trailhawk), two power levels (187 HP or 237 HP), and new exclusive e-driving functions. Jeep’s new electrified powertrain combines FCA’s turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission with two electric motors and an 11.4 kWh battery pack.

One of the electric motors is coupled to the engine and can act as a generator while the other one is mounted on the rear axle, delivering 60 HP and 184 lb-ft of torque, making both models all-wheel-driven.

The different power levels come purely from the engine’s setup, with the 1.3-liter four-cylinder producing 128 HP (130 PS) in the 187 HP (190 PS) models and 177 HP (180 PS) in the range-topping 237 HP (240 PS) versions. Jeep expects both models to emit less than 50 g/km of CO2 emissions and to offer an average EV range of 31 miles (50 km) on the NEDC2 cycle. The top speed in their pure EV mode is limited to 81 mph (130 km/h).

The new Compass and Renegade 4Xe models feature three operating modes for their electrified powertrains: Hybrid, Electric, and E-Save. The latter is used either to maintain battery charge or to charge the battery up to 80 percent through the operation of the petrol engine.

Jeep also claims that despite all the electrification that’s been going on, the new 4Xe models will offer “the best performance and driving dynamics of any Jeep Renegade and Compass ever”, whether that’s EV driving in the city or an off-road adventure.

The company says that the increased torque generated by the electric system and their ability to adjust it “with extreme precision” ensures even greater off-road capability for the new Jeep Compass and Renegade 4Xe models, in addition to being the most fuel-efficient Jeeps ever.

All the high-voltage electrical components are fully sealed and waterproof, with the Trailhawk versions of the new Compass and Renegade 4Xe also fitted with steel skid plates for added off-road protection. Drivers can also pick 4WD Lock for speeds up to 9 mph (15 km/h) and 4WD Low for better response on sandy or rocky terrains.

Jeep’s first electrified models in Europe can be fully charged at home in less than 5 hours with the available base easyWallbox, which can be upgraded to 7.4 kW to provide a full charge in 100 minutes.

Nissan Shows More Of The 2021 Ariya Tesla Model Y Fighter In New Teaser

Nissan is only a few days away from presenting the Ariya, a compact electric crossover that will take on the likes of the Tesla Model Y and other vehicles in the segment.

The model will be officially unveiled during an online event scheduled for July 15, but until we will finally see it in all its glory, the Japanese automaker continues to tease it. The latest clip shows two Ariya vehicles testing on snow and ice, perhaps close to the Arctic Circle, and on the road, in a warmer environment.

Announced last year’s Tokyo Motor Show by the striking looking Ariya Concept, the production model will look similar, boasting a nearly identically shaped grille with two LED strips on each side acting as the daytime running lights and slim LED headlights.

Expected to launch in Japan first, with other markets to follow, including China, Europe and eventually the United States, the Ariya will feature a zero-emission powertrain featuring two electric motors, one on each axle. For now, specific details remain unknown.

It will also get the company’s ProPilot 2.0 semi-autonomous driving system, which will aid drivers on their daily commutes by allowing the car to take control of the steering, brakes and throttle on the highway.

2021 SEAT Ateca Breaks Cover With Subtle Styling Tweaks, Major Tech Overhaul

It’s mid-cycle makeover time for SEAT’s first-ever SUV, the Ateca compact model.

The brand’s most successful sports utility vehicle to date has been improved for 2021MY in Europe with a subtle styling refresh inside and out, an updated powertrain lineup, as well as new safety and connectivity tech.

With more than 300,000 units sold since its launch in 2016 (including 100,000 in 2019 alone), the Ateca is paramount to SEAT’s well-being, which is why the Spanish automaker did not mess with a successful formula. Evolution is the key word here, and that’s most obvious when looking at the styling.

The new LED headlights inspired by the latest SEAT Leon are the most obvious update, with other changes at the front including a new grille and bumper. Out back, the full LED taillights with dynamic indicators (for FR and Xperience trims) and bumper with fresh exhaust pipe covers are also new.

The new design of the bumpers make the 2021 Ateca 18 mm (0.7 in) longer at 4,381 mm (172.5 in), while the width and height remain unchanged. More subtle changes include the updated ‘Ateca’ lettering on the tailgate, new alloy wheel designs (from 17 to 19 inches), and an updated color palette.

The 2021 Ateca also introduces a new rugged-looking Xperience trim level which replaces the Xcellence and features black front and rear bumpers with Aluminum-finish lower valance, body-colored wheel arch surrounds, and side moldings in an Aluminum finish.

10.25-inch Digital Cockpit and upgraded infotainment system with 9.2-inch touchscreen

Inside, the facelifted SEAT Ateca brings a newly-available 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit and an upgraded infotainment system featuring a new HMI interface with re-positioned 8.25-inch or 9.2-inch touchscreens. The leather-wrapped steering wheel is new, as are the door panels with new materials and stitching across.

The compact SUV now also benefits from new upholstery choices (cloth, Microsuede or Leather), matte finish surrounds for the air vents, gear lever and infotainment system, and multi-color ambient lighting. The driver’s seat now features eight-way power adjustment and memory function, while a heated windscreen is introduced as an option.

In terms of connectivity, the 2021 Ateca gains a new voice recognition system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto via the Full Link system, online navigation (via Apple Maps), and Online Connectivity via the embedded SIM (eSIM). In addition, the new SEAT Connect app offers remote control for a range of functions including the parking position, locking and unlocking the doors, remote access to driving data and remaining range, among other things. Four illuminated Type C USB connectors and wireless phone charging are now standard across the range.

Revised petrol and diesel powertrains but no electrification whatsoever

The refreshed powertrain lineup includes three TSI turbocharged petrol units and two TDI turbo diesels. A 110 PS (109 HP) 1.0-liter TSI three-cylinder with Miller-cycle combustion process and variable geometry turbocharger kicks off the range in combination with a manual transmission. Next up is a 150 PS (148 HP) 1.5-liter TSI four-cylinder with Active Cylinder Management, available with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic. The range-topping petrol unit is a 190 PS (187 HP) 2.0-liter TSI fitted exclusively with a DSG transmission and 4Drive AWD system.

As for the diesels, the previously-available 1.6-liter TDI is gone, leaving customers the option to choose between a 115 PS (13 HP) 2.0-liter TDI hooked to a six-speed manual or a 150 PS (148 HP) 2.0-liter TDI offered with either a manual or a DSG. In combination with the dual-clutch gearbox, the more powerful engine can also be had with 4Drive AWD. Interestingly, there’s no 48V mild-hybrid powertrain on offer.

From a safety standpoint, the 2021 SEAT Ateca gains new advanced driver assistance systems, including Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control, Side and Exit Assist, and Front Assist with Pre-Crash braking. Designed and developed in Barcelona, Spain, the facelifted Ateca will be built at Skoda’s plant in Kvasiny, Czech Republic. SEAT did not say when the refreshed SUV will reach dealerships.
