Idaho Rejected Over 250 Vanity Plates This Year, Including P00BARU

Rejected license plates offer a humorous glimpse into automotive culture and today we celebrate the genius who came up with P00BARU.

The ideal vanity plate for aging brown Subarus, P00BARU deserves a spot in Merriam-Webster’s dictionary. Unfortunately, the Debbie Downers at the Idaho Transportation Department thought otherwise. As a result, they rejected it as well as a host of other crude license plates.

As Boise’s KTVB pointed out, the state prohibits plates from having “a sexual term that is vulgar, obscene, or in poor taste” as well as terms that could be considered “obscenity, contempt, prejudice, hostility, insult, racial degradation, ethnic degradation, profanity, or vulgarity.”

What falls into these categories is open to interpretation, but the station received a list of over 250 vanity plates that were rejected this year. While many of them involved abbreviated swear words, there were some puzzling rejections including FAKEAWD, which seemingly means Fake All-Wheel Drive.

The relatively tame PB4WEG0 was also rejected as was STAYNCA, which targets newcomers to the state by telling them to Stay in California. Sticking with that theme, CASUKS was also rejected.

Since 63.8 percent of Idaho voters cast their ballot for President Trump in the last election, it comes as little surprise many of the plates targeted the new administration. FKBDEN, FBIDEN, and FKBIDEN were all rejected as was FKHARIS, which is a (insulting) nod to Vice President Kamala Harris. Of course, not everyone is a Trump fan and at least one person attempted to get a FCKTRMP plate.

There was also an application for IEATASS, which is interesting given the drama that phrase stirred up in Florida a few years ago. That case involved a decal and a man’s arrest, which has now turned into a lengthy legal battle over free speech.

Of course, those are just a handful of the rejected plates and you can see the full list here. Needless to say, the list includes a number that are definitely NSFW.

Watch How You Detail A One-Off Ferrari P4/5 By Pininfarina

Ammo NYC has made a habit of detailing rare, unique, or otherwise interesting cars and showing you the process on YouTube. Their latest car might be the rarest yet, the Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina.

While there is certainly an inherent pleasure in watching an expert perform a process well, the video also gives us unprecedented access to the interior of a completely unique vehicle that we might not even have gotten if we had seen it live at Pebble Beach, where it was heading after this detailing session.

Designed by Pininfarina for James Glickenhaus, the exterior was inspired by Ferrari sports cars of the late 1960s such as the 330 P4.

The only one-off Ferrari ever built without the automaker’s explicit knowledge, the car was the result of James Glickenhaus being asked what he would want if he could have anything in the world.

“Right away my dad said I’d build a P4 Ferrari, a modern P4 Ferrari on a new supercar chassis,” says Jesse Glickenhaus. “Originally it wasn’t necessarily going to be on an Enzo chassis, we looked at the MC-12, we looked at a bunch of actual pure racecar chassis, but we wanted to make it road legal, and the best way to make it road legal was starting with an existing road-legal car. And that’s the thing that sort of set us on the path to become a manufacturer. That question: ‘if you could build anything, what would you build?’”

Ultimately, the P4/5 is very similar to the Enzo under the hood, but its 6.0-liter V12 makes marginally power than stock. Thanks to some mods, it makes 660 bhp (492 kW; 669 PS) and has a 0.34 coefficient of drag. That allows it to get to 62 mph (100 km/h) in three seconds flat and on to a top speed of 233 mph.

Fortunately, even though this is a one-off, it gets used, as proven by the paint swirls that the detailing team charges itself with getting rid of. As host Larry Kosilla puts it, those swirls are evidence of a car that has been enjoyed.

This Chevrolet Camaro Would Double As An Excellent Snowplow

The Chevrolet Camaro may no longer be selling in the numbers it once was, but it is still a very well-rounded performance car. It is also a very popular car to customize but the owner of this particular example has perhaps gone a little overboard with its custom features.

This photo was recently shared to the Shitty_Car_Mods section of Reddit after the car was spotted somewhere in North America. It is painted in a shade of red but the owner decided to paint the hood and roof black. However, it’s not these parts that drew our attention.

For starters, this Camaro features hugely flared front and rear wheel arches that sit out well beyond the edges of the wheels. Were the wheels to fill these arches, they wouldn’t look so bad but they don’t even come close. A truly bizarre front splitter has then been affixed to the front of the Camaro which protrudes out at least a foot from the front bumper.

In fact, the splitter is so massive that it features additional supports securing it to the front of the muscle car. The size of it even led the original poster to suggest that it looks more like a snowplow than it does a Chevy Camaro – and we’re inclined to agree.

Rounding thins up is a rear wing that, obviously, is anything but subtle. To our eyes, it all looks way OTT, but what do you make of this rather unusually modified Camaro?

This “Plybertruck” Swaps The Tesla Pickup’s Stainless Steel Shell For Wooden Body Panels

The Tesla Cybertruck made waves when it was unveiled with its DeLorean-like bare stainless steel body. This replica, on the other hand, eschews the steel in favor of wood, and while it might look a little rough around the edges, it’s for a reason.

Dubbed the “Plybertruck”, the wooden replica was created by CJ Cromwell. It recently gained traction on Reddit, where before its actual name was known, people were coming up with some pretty clever nicknames for it, including “Cedartruck”, “Cyberchuck”, and “Model Tree”.

The Cybertruck knock-off was made to compete in the Gambler 500 rally, which is what explains the less-than-perfect looks. For those who aren’t familiar, the Gambler 500 is a 500-mile (805-km) navigation rally where participants’ vehicles are limited in purchase cost to $500. The vehicle underneath the Plybertruck’s wooden exterior is actually a first-generation Acura MDX, so while it’s obviously not electric like the real Cybertruck, we have no doubt that it met the $500 purchase cost cap.

However, after the initial purchase price of $500, there’s no limit on how much money participants are allowed to put into their vehicle, which was what allowed for things like the wood and the light bar. As one person in the original Reddit post’s comments jokingly wrote, “Given the price of lumber these days it probably cost more to make than the real thing.”

This Bugatti Chiron Set On Fire In Miami Will Be A Very Expensive Fix

A red and black Bugatti Chiron allegedly owned by Dominican recording artist El Alfa suffered extensive damage from a fire while parked in a garage in Miami. Two videos posted on Instagram by supercar.fails show the aftermath with the burned Chiron sitting next to a black Ferrari that was not affected by the fire.

The Chiron will need a new bonnet, fender, wheel, tire, driver’s side door, and window, as all the aforementioned parts have huge black marks from the fire. We believe that the French hypercar will need a lot more than a simple paint job to get back in original condition, with the high temperatures melting glass, rubber, carbon fiber, and plastic parts in the affected area. Thankfully someone managed to extinguish the fire before the whole car and its surroundings burned to crisp.

There is no official information on the incident but, according to the post, this was no accident and it was purposely set ablaze by someone. The Chiron starts from a cool $2.9 million plus options, and we are sure that the repairs will be costly. As a reminder, the hypercar is fitted with a quad-turbo 8.0-liter W16 engine producing 1,479 hp (1,103 kW / 1,500 PS).

While we can’t confirm that this Chiron belongs to El Alfa, a car with the same specification is appearing in a music video from February 2021, and in many of his Instagram posts. El Alfa also owns a bright blue Rolls-Royce Cullinan that happened to be a shooting target a few weeks ago. Thankfully, in both cases, there were no injuries reported.

Dodge Charger Driver Claims He Did Double The Speed Limit To See If His Wheel Was Rattling

The driver of a Dodge Charger had a run-in with the law in Ontario, Canada and his excuse for speeding didn’t go down well with the police.

Taking to Twitter, the PRP Road Safety Services account of the Peel Police stated that the Charger was pulled over for doing 152 km/h (94.4 mph) in an 80 km/h (50 mph) zone. There is no reasonable excuse to justify driving at almost double the speed limit, but that didn’t stop the driver of the Dodge from trying to talk his way out of a ticket.

According to the local police, the male driver of the Charger claimed that he was driving at such high speeds to “see if his rim was rattling.” As excuses go, that’s a pretty terrible one and the police officer, Constable Maye, didn’t much care for it, saying he would get the impound lot to check if the wheel was rattling or not.

For a typical motorist, the suspicion that something may be wrong with their vehicle doesn’t prompt them to speed up; on the contrary, it encourages them to slow down out of fear that there might be an issue with their car, or even pull over to the side of the road to check out what’s happening. Speeding up definitely isn’t a wise option; but then again, it’s very likely that the man just tried to find an excuse and hoped it would work.

Mini Bugatti Centodieci Carved From Wood Is Pretty Close To The Real Thing

Bugatti will build just 10 examples of the Chiron-based Centodieci with prices starting at €8 million ($9.7 million) a pop, meaning very few will ever have the opportunity to see one in the flesh. A Centodieci model made from wood is even rarer.

This Centodieci model was created by YouTuber ND – Woodworking Art who has a wealth of experience creating scale models of real-life vehicles out of wood. This isn’t some pint-sized model like a Hot Wheels car either and is comparable in size to the ride-on vehicles made for young children.

The 17-minute video details the entire build process of the car, starting out with the wooden chassis before the craftsman behind this stunning creation cuts the wheels and carves them with simple hand tools. Work is then done on the propulsion system which takes the form of a small electric motor powering the rear wheels.

With the model up and running, the difficult task of crafting the complex bodywork begins. Bugatti really went to town on the exterior design of the Centodieci to ensure it looks significantly different than the Chiron. By using nothing more than a small chainsaw, the YouTuber was able to mimic the same overall shape of the Centodieci before using a chisel and a hammer to refine and perfect the design. The model is so accurate and has been so well made that it even features a fully functional interior carved entirely from wood.

YouTuber Crashes Mercedes G63 AMG Through Fence Trying To Do Donuts

YouTube channel DailyDrivenExotics (DDE) has done it again with another headline-grabbing car accident, this time in a Mercedes G-Class. In a video featuring a series of off- and on-road shenanigans, the bunch managed to crash the G-Wagen straight through a fence, nearly rolling it over.

The video begins with DDE going through their showroom, which includes their newly-completed, custom windshield-less Lamborghini Huracan, among many other unique vehicles.

They then proceed to take said Huracan out and do donuts in the parking lot, until they have the idea to do the same with the G63 in the dirt lot next to it.

Despite the fact that it is supposed to be going up for sale soon, they take the G-Wagen onto the dirt lot and begin playing around. They kick up some mud and dirt, and slide around a bit, all accompanied by the G63’s V8 growl. However, after a few minutes of fun, they send the off-roader directly into a metal fence after rolling it over an embankment near the edge of the lot.

We’ve seen lots of Youtubers doing silly things just to garner views, but we guess crashing a G63, and nearly rolling over, most likely doesn’t fit in that category. In spite of the damage done to SUV, as they make their way over to it, they are laughing and smiling as if they didn’t just crash a range-topping Mercedes G-Class.

Unfortunately for them, the damage was fairly substantial. The crash resulted in scratches all over the roof and hood, and half of a metal pole drove its way through the front bumper, with the other half wedging itself in the frame and needing to be cut out. It should be repairable, but we’re not too sure if the next owner of this car would be happy to hear that a metal rod had previously impaled the front end of his new G-Wagen.

You can watch the whole video, crash included, for yourself below.

Highway Lane-Changing “Tutorial” Goes Horribly Wrong

“But I’m a good driver.” You’ve probably heard people say that in the past as a reason why they can drive ‘faster’ (aka. more recklessly) than others without getting into an accident. We’re willing to bet the driver in this video thought just that.

Details about this clip, such as when and where it was filmed are unclear, but it has recently gone viral on Reddit and features a driver describing to his passenger(s) how to make high-speed lane changes on a highway while swerving through traffic. Before long, the ‘tutorial’ starts to go wrong.

For the first 30 seconds of the video, the driver slices his way through traffic without a care in the world and at times, is driving with just one hand on the steering wheel. However, at the 34-second mark, he attempts a lane change while carrying too much speed and the rear end of the car kicks out.

The driver attempts to correct the slide but is unable to keep the car under control. It ends up smashing into a concrete barrier on the side of the highway, setting off the airbags.

It’s unclear what happened after the video cut off, but we hope that no one was injured.

Footage Shows Tesla Rear-Ending A Honda At 136 MPH Well After Autopilot Disengages Due To Forward Collision Warning

A Tesla’s on-board front camera has captured the moment the EV rear-ended a Honda Civic on highway CA-24 near Lafayette, California recently.

The videos were shared on Twitter by noted hacker and security researcher GreenTheOnly, who is understood to have received it from a salvage yard where this Tesla was sitting.

The standard footage from the front of the Tesla shows it speeding down one of the center lanes of the highway. According to the separate clip that overlays the Tesla’s various semi-autonomous visualizations over the video, it is revealed that the speed differential between the two cars at the time of the rear-end collision was a shocking 63 mph (101 km/h). Blackbox data from the Tesla confirms it was traveling at 136.55 mph (219.7 km/h) at the moment of impact.

The video cuts out almost immediately after the Civic is hit from behind, so it’s hard to know how much damage was caused to the two cars, although we guess they must have been totaled.

GreenTheOnly notes that Autopilot disengaged roughly 40 seconds before the crash and the Forward Collision Warning chime was triggered.

It is unclear why the driver of the Tesla continued to accelerate after Autopilot had been disabled, the Front Collision Warning alarmed them and still they made no attempt to brake or swerve out of the way of the slower-moving Honda. The most likely explanation is that the driver was distracted but even still, that doesn’t explain why they were driving so fast.

In incidents like this, it would be, you know, helpful to get in touch with a Tesla representative for a comment, but as Jalopnik notes, the Californian electric carmaker doesn’t see the need to have a press department at all.
